The Dorset Open Network Ecosystem (DONE) project is developing groundbreaking technology that will make the deployment of the UK’s public telecoms networks easier, cheaper, and more secure. Through our sister brand, X-Net (FKA Kimcell), D3IP engaged in a consortium of international innovators to research and develop Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) technologies for the UK’s public 5G networks.

Challenge

Currently, 5G technology is only available from a small selection of companies which results in low competition, high prices, and limited innovation. The £7 million Dorset Open Network Ecosystem (DONE) project is combatting that by developing secure ORAN technology.

Solution

This project will open the door for more companies to develop the components required for 5G infrastructure and follows the decision by UK Government to remove high-risk vendors from the country’s 5G network.

Partners

The DONE project is led by Dorset Council and partners include Vodafone, Strathclyde University, Neutral Networks, Telint, Arm, and Keysight Technologies, as well as SMEs Wildanet and Illuminate.
