Exploring the Future of Immersive Training with AVRT
Ahead of D3IP’s Reality Reimagined Expo 2025, which is coming to the BattleLab, Dorset Innovation Park, on 26th June, we’re introducing some of the showcasing partners and speakers who are set to make this event an insightful and exciting exploration into the future of Extended Reality (XR).
Andy Higgs is Sales Director at AVRT (Adaptive Virtual Reality Training). AVRT specialises in creating flexible, fully immersive simulators designed for high-risk environments, primarily focusing on Law Enforcement, Defence, and Security services. Their platform integrates real-world objects, particularly weapons, to provide realistic training scenarios.

Unique Approach to VR Training
AVRT (Adaptive Virtual Reality Training) creates training systems that are highly flexible and adaptable. Their incorporation of real-world objects and weapons makes their simulators ideal for training military and police personnel.
Unlike many VR training solutions that offer a one-size-fits-all approach, AVRT customises its scenarios to meet the specific needs of its clients and ensures users train with the same tools they would use in real-life situations. This approach not only improves the realism of the training but also ensures that users are better prepared for real-world challenges.
“What we find is that people go in and they’ll engage more naturally because they’re able to move and act naturally in terms of taking up firing positions. And they’re in a fully synthetic world, which gives them that extra sense of realism, taking them away from being in an environment they know, with instructors that they know.”
One of the significant barriers to VR adoption is motion sickness. AVRT has tackled this issue head-on by designing a system that eliminates induced motion. In AVRT’s simulators, users move naturally within the virtual environment, which significantly reduces the likelihood of motion sickness. Over 6,500 users have tested the system, and there have been fewer than five reported cases of VR-induced motion sickness.
Trends in Extended Reality
The XR space is evolving rapidly, and AVRT is at the forefront of these changes. One notable trend is the shift towards more lightweight and standalone VR headsets. These advancements make it easier to deploy VR solutions quickly and efficiently. Additionally, there is a growing interest in integrating third-party technologies, such as haptic feedback systems, to enhance the level of immersion in VR experiences.
AVRT at the Reality Reimagined Expo 2025
As one of the confirmed showcasing partners for the Reality Reimagined Expo 2025, AVRT will be demonstrating its latest training simulators, including both its law enforcement and military versions. Delegates, who can register for free on the Reality Reimagined website, can experience these fully immersive, free-roam simulations at the expo. These demonstrations will highlight the flexibility and adaptability of AVRT’s systems, showcasing how they can be tailored to meet the specific needs of different organisations.
“We will have a a relatively reasonable size free roam simulator where people will be able to go in and engage with fully synthetic environments and go up against digital characters enemies.”
Andy said AVRT’s participation in the expo is driven by a desire to gain exposure and connect with potential clients and partners. He said Reality Reimagined provides an excellent platform for AVRT to demonstrate its cutting-edge technology and gather valuable feedback from users.
AVRT will also unveil new scenarios and potentially new technology integrations at the expo. These additions aim to provide even more dynamic and engaging training experiences. While the specifics are under wraps, attendees are encouraged to visit AVRT’s stand to discover these exciting new developments.
